We just got back from another amazing weekend in Bend and have stopped going to anywhere but lavabelles. They have a bunch of houses/apartments in the city so those of us who don't ski can wander sans car; the retro-mod houses are all thoughtfully updated, most have hot tubs and are pet friendly. While it's not "cheap" for a couple ($125 for the 1 bedroom apartment 3 blocks from St. Francis) the pull-out couch serves as a fully acceptable crash pad for a brother-in-law or the like. The real steals are the houses. I love Fay, which sleeps 6 comfortably for $200 a night (there's even a cabana near the fire pit in the back yard!) Some of the houses sleep 10 for around $250; they have tons of photos on their site for those of us who dig funky appliance/tile/hardscaping images. The owners throw in free passes to the soaking pool at St Francis should you want to venture out. I only wish we had something this styling/comfortable/well-stocked/centrally located/affordable on the coast and in the gorge.... I can’t believe I haven’t stumbled upon this site earlier.
